Can you include .3MF to the list of re-compressible formats? Its structure is similar to MS Office 2007 documents and Open Document Format. It is a ZIP Deflate archive with XML data and some JPG, and/or PNG pictures inside. Otherwise, if I try to compress .3MF it bearly makes it smaller unless I recompress .3MF to the Store setting then it makes it a lot smaller.
Wish they all would move to 7zip ZSTD in the first place so that the optimized file size with FileOptimizer would be 50% of the ZIP Deflate version. And there would be no extra compression needed :)
I noticed that the option to add the optimize archive function to the context menu is missing on Windows 10.
Opening each archive with the interface in order to click it becomes tedious with many files.
Same for others functions like Remove Archive Encryption
Merging archives
-
I am not sure if either of this is doable. But if it would be easily doable, I would find it most helpful.
Sometimes I have multiple backup files. Some files are the same within the archives.
It would be nice to be able to merge or blend the files so that I end up with one archives that includes only the most recent version of all files within the separate archives.– AND that it maintains the correct path info.

Is this based on filename or contents (since you mention “most recent version”)?
If the same file/filename was in different folders (paths), they should be treated as different or as the same? -
Let me illustrate. Suppose:
CONDITIONS:
Archive 1 has 6 files: A, B, C, D, E, F
Archive 2 has 6 files: A, C, E, F, G, H
Archive 3 has 5 files, A, E, F, H, IAny file in archive 3 will be later than any file in archive 1 or 2. Any files in archive 2, not also in archive 3, will be earlier than the corresponding file (if any) in Archive 1.
HOPE:
It would be nice if there was a way of merging or blending Archives 1, 2, and 3 so that I had a new Archive 4 (or an updated 3) which included the latest versions of all files A-I, all with their respective paths.Does this help?
-
Yikes.
bad boo-boo.
Any file in archive 3 will be later than any file in archive 1 or 2. Any files in archive 2, not also in archive 3, will be MORE RECENT (not earlier) than the corresponding file (if any) in Archive 1.
-
Not sure why you feel the older files being in Archive 1 or in Archive 2 is important?
I would think you want the merge to work either way :D
My question was about PATHS not files.
Should:
Path1/fileA be treated as a different file to Path2/fileA -even if fileA is the same in both cases (i.e. you end up with BOTH in the merged archive)?
-
I would be happy if it worked either way; but for my purposes, it is not critical.
If the two files in the different archives each came from the same path, they should be treated as having the same path.

Hi Team,
As you know, Ive been using PowerArchiver, Winzip & Stuffit for sometime
In my Primary job I use PA* and Winzip 9 as backward compatible checker when sending to customers who normally rely on Windows Compressed Folders features.
I have around 250 Individual Reports under my name of such a team of 7 Administrator’s refresh 100 of them via a VBA Plugin Menu I programed & maintain then Zip them before sending out.
On each zip they Date stamp the archive and transfer into an Folder. Therefore, we have an ability to check previosly updated & dispatched reports just in case there is an issue.
As an additional level of backup I run background sets using PowerArchiver’s backup tool that too Datestamps 7zip Encrypted Archives. I use 7zip as its compression method is far better with Spreadsheets & Database’s.
It suddenly dawned on me when I was doing something that I do all the time and that was Combining 90 odd individual Zip Archives into one Complete 7zip Archive I have to manually Extract them, then select all to Compress into a new 7zip format.
I cant use the convert function because all it does is duplicates each Zip and creates a new format based on my paramators *ps we really need a “Delete Old Format” on completion of Converting.
So what I am asking for is alittle bit of a mix between the Convert & Batch to create a “Combine” function.
This new function allows users to import a folder with archives or manually select a range of different archive types of such they then use PoweArchivers New “Combine” feature to automatically extract all different Archives and Compress into their new Set Archive, Then if selected Delete the old set’s on Completion or move into a Temp Location for 30 Days.
This would be a great time saver, and I can see other users finding the ability to select a range of different formats then combine them into one new format with additional options available a real Plus!
I would enable this feature on Pro / Toolbox users only. Possibly with more features for toolbox.

Merge archives tool?
-
i think someone suggested this before, maybe socrates, or something similar?
-
The Merge tool witn “Volumes” doesnt allow me to select multiple archives of all differnt formats that are currently supported by PowerArchiver.
The Combine tool i’m thinking of would allow the user to select a whole folder containing multiple archives ranging from Zip, rar, cabs etc and then convert them all into one Archive set by the user and the location.
so more of an advanced Merge tool if you like.
-
i didnt mean merge volumes, but new merge tool :-)
-
merged the thread (sir richard posted separate). Great minds think alike? :-)
-
Certainly agree to great minds :)
Yes a new Tool Called Merge or Combine Archive’s.
Cetainly think other users would find this extreamly usefull esspecially in situations for backup’s.
Toolbox addition me thinks… maybe pro.
please please add this to the todo list :D
-
all compression tools are in standard version :-)
-
I know its technically “re compressing” things, but its something additonal and could be deemed as such for Pro and Toolbox users.
After all the whole point is to tempt users from standard to pro/toolbox and the way to do that is neat helpfull features like this one.
-
ow just a quick request on top of the above… it would be nice to have in the Shell extensions along side that feature would be “Merge Archives…”
Therefore, a user could just highlight lets say 10 Archive formats in any number of folders then on the last one then right click and Select “Merge Archives” to Zip, 7zip, rar, cab etc etc and possilbly extra shell’s such as;
Merge & Encrypt
Merge & é-mail
Merge & FTP It!
Merge & Burn
