PA 21.00.18 Action / Test behaves oddly for me on .PA files
    Brian GregoryB

PA 21.00.18 running on Windows 7 64 bit.
I made a big .PA file and thought I’d check it was made correctly with Menu / Actions / Test.
    Discovered:
    a) PA always issues a UAC prompt to do this!
    b) PA always says there are many errors in PA files.

Convert archive is incorrect for some WinRAR 5 archives
    W

WinRAR 5 has a rather useful option in some cases, which is to be able to create an archive by replacing identical files with a reference to the first occurrence (hardlink) within the archive.
In case you choose to convert the file with PowerArchiver to another format, however, the resulting archive does not have all the files. It does not consider those that were present as hardlinks.
If you do a normal extraction of the RAR archive instead, even with PowerArchivier, all the files are extracted correctly.

    Some bugs on Advanced options
    W

When adding to a file archive, and selecting for example PA format, strong optimization method, extreme compression. In the Advanced Options section you change to Automatic, EXE Filter and PDF filter . You return to the main section and save the Profile. When you then reload the profile you do not have the Automatic options of EXE Filter and PDF saved there.
I noticed that instead if you change other options they are saved correctly (except for the Filter box values).

Also among the various changes to the advanced options you click the “Calculate RAM usage” button the value seems to be added to the previous one. You can see it for example just by clicking the button twice in a row, the value changes. Edit: actually after many attempts now it seems to write a stable value (it does not change with each click). Maybe a synchronization problem in the calculation?

Used PowerArchivier 2023 but there is the same behavior with the 2022

Does the PowerArchiver 2011 ToolBox Edition RC version include the standalone applications for Burner, FTP and Backup? How many RC will there be before the final version and how long is each RC?

I would say Its hard to tell the time between RC’s the Alpha versions have been going for months.

But aslong as people download and test this application, the more feedback we can obtain and the possibility of faster updates can be made towards the Final.

I could not think of a more pointless bundle than with an anti-virus app. I choose my security apps very carefully as I do my compression utils, and it is not unknown for me to change my security app each year.

Much as I wish to support ConeXware, I shall not be upgrading :-(((.

You don’t have to make use of the free BD, it’s not bundled with PA it’s a separate download if you want it.

I don’t have any need for it myself and that’s why I won’t be taking advantage of the download. But I still upgraded to the toolbox version.

Why? I may have missed something. Is the toolbox version just pro + AV?

I do not mind paying for some extra functionality that I may use, but not for something I will never use.

I’ll wait for Spywolf’s email to see if it clarifies things a bit.

there is absolutely no need to upgrade if you do not want to :-)… we shuffled things around a bit for 2011 based on feedback from customers.

of course, there WILL be surprise for Toolbox peoples in the future :-).

I would advise anyone to take advantage of the discount for Toolbox and keep the serial for Bit Defender.

Or sell the BitDefender to a friend and get back what you paid for toolbox. :)

Looking forward to PAF and many new exiting features toolbox will support.

C’mon mate, tempt me with the upgrade deals for exisiting customers. I know I don’t HAVE to upgrade, but if the price is right…

Marketing-wise, you may have stumbled. The market is full of free and paid for backup utils. I have two here (paid) myself and I suspect that anybody who wants/needs one will already be sorted out in that regard. Same goes for security suites.

So far, the only advantage (not knowing what is down the line) is the warm glow of supporting PA development…which is a good reason in itself. I have been known to donate to freeware authors, that is when they usually give up .

market is full of everything, if we went by that, then you would never see another new product :-).

we will try to make best backup utility on the market, since we will build new format for it, and not just use off the shelf libraries that everyone does and are not really meant for the backup.

If we can build new backup that is 30% more efficient (faster, less space taken, less bandwidth taken), I am sure it will be quite nice :-).

For your backup util, PLEASE let it restore to existing partitions and not create its own. Why?

I use a partitioning utility that allows for >200 primary partitions per disk. If one uses it outside the standard 4 partitions per disk (4 primaries or 3+extended) no other util/OS etc must be allowed to create partitions.

As regards the marketing comment, there is no point re-inventing the wheel, one must create a better one.

i believe it will not be full disc image backup utility (at least not to start) but smart differential continuous backup utility that saves only byte level changes and not full files… we can have big improvements there compared to what exists on the market right now (with our own compression format/engine and byte level differentials like in Patchbeam).

                                                @Sir:

Spwolf, Make sure that specifically designed backup tool is for Toolbox users ;)

Pro could have something less comprehensive. But usefull non the less.

Looking forward to the 2012 edition of PA

well this will be full product done with care and patience that we do PowerArchiver with :-)

When will upgrade offers for existing customers be available? Will ‘the e-mail’ be sent soon?

if you login to the account, they are already there… we are still getting feedback on everything before we send emails (since most people dont realize that PA 2011 is out at all).
