Can you include .3MF to the list of re-compressible formats? Its structure is similar to MS Office 2007 documents and Open Document Format. It is a ZIP Deflate archive with XML data and some JPG, and/or PNG pictures inside. Otherwise, if I try to compress .3MF it bearly makes it smaller unless I recompress .3MF to the Store setting then it makes it a lot smaller.
Wish they all would move to 7zip ZSTD in the first place so that the optimized file size with FileOptimizer would be 50% of the ZIP Deflate version. And there would be no extra compression needed :)
I noticed that the option to add the optimize archive function to the context menu is missing on Windows 10.
Opening each archive with the interface in order to click it becomes tedious with many files.
Same for others functions like Remove Archive Encryption

I’ve seen a request for ISO support, but how about the Mac HQX and disk image IMA/IMG support? I use disk images a fair amount, but these are probably not too common types for most. Anyway, more options are always great to have. :)

it would be great if new achive formats can be made avaliable through plugins one example of this is irfanview found at www.irfanview.com
Simply it would be fantastic if we the enuser (customers) could add our own archive/ encryption formats.
They could add a forum for new plugins so they can test them before give them full support or powerarchiver certification…
I would like arj format or arj’s own jar format it is a solid archive better than rar but not as many features yet.

Yes! There could be an Extension Manager like in Mozilla Firefox (a browser) thru wich you can add a lot of options!
First practical things for Extensions:
-ISO, IMG and BIN support (for NOT using WinISo or something like that, and using PA for that, too)-More Settings in SFX (a new SFX Wizard with more archive format support and more customizable …)
-and many other extensions!
Look at www.mozilla.org ! There you can add .xpi extensions into your browser! FREE! Why couldnt work something like that in PA, too???

Okay, then what about SQX format?
-
i think its not really important (not so than CD image files)

@Charles:
Okay, then what about SQX format?
Very good question. I just visited the SQX home page and it seems that the SQX format has very interesting features which 7z has not yet and will not get in the foreseeable future. There is also a SDK for downloading even with a sample for Delphi.
- Main compressor is a LZH variant supporting lz dictionaries from 32K up to 4096K
- Several compressor extensions for multimedia data
- High speed audio (WAV) compressor
- Special compressor stage for IA32 executables
- Solid and non solid archives
- Strong 128-bit AES encryption (Rijndael) for file data
- Independant encryption of archive directories
- Internal and external data recovery records
- Full support for 64-bit filesystems (archive size or the size of archive volumes is only limited by the OS)
- Support for digitally signed archives (envelope up to 512 bit, encrypted with 2 * 1024 bit)
- SFX modules for DOS (32bit PMode) and Win32. All SFX modules support mv archives
- Archive and file comments

You’re right on track, Postman! That’s exactly what I meant. I do think that this format is very important to the enhancement of PA. Also, I did not appreciate the slam I received from Spawn.

Charles, I am sure he meant no offence, check his sig (edit: he’s removed it - he is German not a native english speaker).
Personally, I have no requirements for CD formats - I also would prefer including support (the more popular) compression formats - SQX, Sit - even if only uncompressing.

my 2cents:
PA’s nothing to share with ISO format and the like…its a (de)compressing utility…so let’s not suggest things that would lead it to be a bloatware app…
not that our suggestions come true…
develops hardly ever answer in the forum (and that’s a pity!) -
Yes yes i miss some fileformat supports!!

develops hardly ever answer in the forum (and that’s a pity!)We dont really answer wishlist items BEFORE we start developing new version, unless it is something really, really interesting…
This has been discussed before - we cant add support for all of the formats out there simply because PA would become HUGE and slow. It already is quite big.
Reason we chose 7zip is because it is an open source format.p.s. keep in mind that 9.0 has been just released. And I do think that all of the new features in it were take from our users wishlist, werent they? Please do not be too hard on us, in past few days I have spent few hours per day just on forums, and real work doesnt get done that way :-).
thank you and keep your suggestions coming.

I was wrong when saying you devs quite never answer on this forum…I can see you’ve spent a lot on here lately…so, thank you!!
spwolf, it’s very important, for us users, to hear devs voice…to know whether our suggestions may come true, or are at least judged interesting…
you know, there are not many users posting on this forum…but there are some who do post a lot…and you know what? we do because we LOVE PA, and we want it to grow better and better!!
so, don’t get angry if our words are not always a bed of roses…we’ve got max respect for you and other devs who came out with this app we like so much!
of course I’ll keep on with my suggestions! ;)
