For some reason, the PowerArchiver functions in the Windows 11 context menu no longer work after the last Windows Update. Only the functions in the classic context menu function as they should.
I’ve tried uninstalling PowerArchiver and using RevoUninstaller to remove all bits and pieces that were left behind and did a clean install of PowerArchiver, it didn’t fix the issue. Other items in the Windows 11 context menu work.

Re: Explorer.exe Crash on right click
This appears to be happening again with the Power Archiver 2022 shell extensions.
When I have Use Explorer Shell Extensions enabled in Power Archiver Configuration and right-click on c:\Users\username\Start Menu, (hidden Junction file), File Explorer crashes.
I have version 21.00.15 (03/2022) 64-bit installed in Windows 10 Version 21H2 (Build 19044.1826).

In the latest version of PA, on W11 (latest build/SP) when you try to use the first level context menu - NOTHING HAPPENS (particularly when you do this from Downloads or Documents folders) - however I noticed that it DOES WORK when you use the context menu from the Desktop. Going to the second level context menu does work however.

PA 2023 22.00.08
Long time no seeing. So I start up the new year with a first problem : the virtual driver cannot be installed. Reason : it is missing in the Fast Ring PatchBeam Update Service…
Virtual driver PA 2023-01-28 152607.png
It seems a standard problem with new releases :-)
Can I have a link or can it be fixed. Thank you. CU later -
When the function for testing archives is invoked via the shell context menu (PowerArchiver > Test) then all the files in the archive get extracted to the current folder.
The test dialog reports as many errors as there are files in the archive but it fails to give any hint as to which files are supposed to be erroneous or what the nature of the problem might be. Comparing the extracted files to the originals shows no differences at all.
The .7z in question was produced with maximised compression settings in 7zip (taking forever but resulting in smaller archives than .7z produced by PowerArchiver with maximised settings). Therefore I wanted to see whether PowerArchiver can at least test .7z that it produced itself. Hence I had PowerArchiver convert a .pa with the same contents to .7z. There weren’t any errors reported but the resulting .7z contained fewer than half of the files contained in the .pa (137 of 366), so I scratched that test.
Performance is abysmal when testing via the context menu (e.g. almost 2 minutes for testing a .7z that 7zip tests in 4 seconds), but that is most likely due to the fact that the extracted files are written to disk. Testing the same .7z in the PowerArchiver GUI takes only 8 seconds but causes the mysterious appearance of a UAC dialog, as reported elsewhere.
The testing function is vital because PowerArchiver has a history of producing archives that it cannot unpack without errors or that do not conform to the respective file format standards (e.g. ZIP) so that other programs report them as erroneous.
The point of creating archives is that the files in them will most likely have to be extracted at some point. If the extraction cannot be guaranteed to produce correct results then the whole program is absolutely pointless. Actually, worse than pointless - it causes data loss and hence damage.

In PowerArchiver 2023 22.00.06 configuration, the option labelled “Start PowerArchiver 2023 Starter when my computer starts” seems to be redundant.
I am only allowed to change this option when PA Starter is disabled, and then it seems to be ignored.
When I enable PA Starter this option is forced to the enabled state.
I think it’d be good to remove “Start PowerArchiver 2023 Starter when my computer starts” completely. I’ve always found it confusing having both options.
Added later: However i don’t particularly want to use queue but I do like having the PAStarter icon in my tray area.

W10 Pro 22H2 - 64 -bit
PA 22.00.06 (PA 2023)
It has been the case with previous versions of PowerArchiver, but I had hoped that the latest might behave differently. Not so, I’m afraid.
I have, for various obscure reasons, created a few .pa archives, mainly in the hope that they will save me some more space. From time to time, I use the “Test” option to check that important archives are OK and uncorrupted.
With every .pa archive I’ve tested, the process runs through OK but then reports that there are errors. This is always the number of files in the archive e.g. if 11 files, then 11 errors reported.
In the .pa, I can:-
preview the files (usually PDF) extract some or all files and look at or use them convert the .pa to a .zip or .zipx archive, which then works fine and tests without errorsIs it the case that the Test routine isn’t designed for .pa archives, or is there another reason? Although the .pa seems to function properly, despite the test reporting errors, I would like to be sure that every .pa is OK and not “broken”.
Some of the .pas are quite old and produced with earlier PA versions (they are truly “archives”). If I extract all the files in the old .pa, create a new, fresh .pa and add back the files to that, then test the new, no errors (at least in the .pa I’ve tried this on) are reported. This would suggest a mismatch between old .pas and newer versions of PA itself.

See the, supposedly, blank space where the green box is? It’s like that in Modern Light theme too. I can toggle it, but it’s missing text or shouldn’t be there I guess?
Thanks :)

EDIT 2016: We are preparing to launch PACL 8.0 and PA 2017 within next two months. We are finalizing a lot of the specs right now and have crucial upcoming tests about our new format .pa. If you want to support development of PACL and PA 2017, please let us know and have your input matter in final releases.
First testing will start with PACL and then continue with PA 2017 alpha releases. Let us know in this thread, it is open to all PA users. Thank you!
We have 50 people who are clasified as Power Users by their status here. If you are one of them and want to test some exciting stuff in PA, that you will not be able to tell anyone about for a while, post here and we will enroll you.

While I’m not a “Power User” because I don’t post on these forums much I have been a PowerArchiver user for years and am very tech savvy. PowerArchiver is also one of the programs I use every single day multiple times a day….so if you can overlook my forum title I’d make a great tester for you.
I’ve beta-tested many versions of Windows (Win 98, 98 SE, Win2K, etc.) as well as more fun beta testing testing opportunities like Diablo II & Total Annihilation - my name is even in the TA manual.
Tech specs if you’ve read this far:
Windows 7 x64 Ultimate
Intel i7 930
Radeon 5850
6 GB DDR3I run my system hard, too…40 tabs open in Firefox & a full taskbar of 15-20 programs running at all times is the norm for me so if you need ‘stress testing’ I may be your guy.
And oh yeah…I’ve got a fervent desire for PowerArchiver to become even better than it already is. My friends are already tired of me telling them how superior it is to what they are using & tired of me proving it to them. ;D
-
it pays off to write an short essay… look at the bottom of the forums ;-)

Hi, If possible please could you add me to the alpha testers.
I generally test a lot of betas, enjoy using such products and informing the devs of any issues I find.
I have Windows 7 *64 on my main PC, testing PC, and Windows 7 *86 on my testing laptop and also use Sun VM.
Many Thanks.
-
meh….I don’t like to create huge essays…all they do is reassure my extreme awesomeness and make others jealous
Long story short, I was a betatester for Battlefield 2142 and Universe at War. I’m extremely nick-picky, and will make comments about anything no matter how small the problem is. I’m a GUI freak, also.
Did I mention I’m also a Professional license owner?
-
-
Who isn’t? ;)
Pro license owners will love 2011 ;-).
Not that standard license owners wont, just that price for the Pro will seem like quite an steal ;-)

scince winzip stopped supporting windows 2000 only powerarchiver and winrar support it. i’m proud that powearchiver supports it. My computer is 12 years old tomorrow and still able to run powearchiver that is the testement to the developers who look after their customers.
-
Hi,
Just wondered if any possibility of being added to Alpha Testers. Many Thanks.
-
and quick question are you going to release the new format as a format like zip as freeware or only the unpaf feature.
People would like to know as the more camatible the format ids the better chance people will use it

I’m unsure personally, but in my mind i think the ability to Read PAF format will be made available to all PA Versions. But possibly writing PAF would be a pro/toolbox advantage only.
Again, this is for PA to confirm.
-
i was talking baout it for other archivers otherwise making a new format only for pa use would make it rather limited.
are they going down the rar route
-
I Think thats the plan! Obviosly, thats where the money is! developing their own version and enabling users to implement it via other software.
But, the only ones who know are the owners and they are rather hush hush about things :D im sure all will be come clear :)
-
at very least, rar/ace route for sure….
-
Still looking for testers?
Ah of course you are. You want me even after almost a year since the last post.
I’m a 23 year old student of ICT (programming, mainly JAVA and C#). I’m from the Netherlands, bla bla bla.
I hate essays so I won’t write more :)

Hi Chaoskiller,
The alpha team’s a pritty tight team to get into. But, one way to show your interested is to start using the forums.
Give the Developers & Alpha team a feel for your idea’s on ways to improve powerarchiver and it’s plugins.
Not to mention identify Bugs and remember to make it step by step with potential pictures to help the team try and replicate that sinario.
Its also advised you list your primary PC spec’s, you will notice the alpha team do this and other Beta public testers.
If you show your desire to help conexware make their software better! then come the next alpha vote im sure you will be considered.

Good points made there.
Let’s start with my computer’s specs:
Itel Core i7-2630QM (2 GHz Quad Core)
8GB RAM
NVidia GT 555M at 1920x1080
Windows 7 Professional with Windows 8 Release Preview dual-boot -
Great!,
Now it’s the norm to keep your “primary” system specs on the forum as a signature.
Obviosly, if you are like me you may have 1 work system and one home. Just use the PC that you use the most and have admin rights too.
Because you may be asked by the dev team or you yourself may want to change settings to see if it resolves an issue at some point.
Other than that, write your posts clearly. if you have any ideas that you have about powerarchiver tools, features or even new requests please post them.
If you feel it’s for the dev team only which can happen, just email them via the support page.
Your a programmer, so you are more than aware that at Alpha “prealpha” you are accessing potential unreliable software and even more importantly a glimse into the future of the program.
So it takes time for the dev team to trust a person to reach alpha level as you can fully understand.
We obviosly dont want the competitors to get wind of any new features in the testing motion before it’s offical.
;) If you are a PA fan, you will remember the time we brought out the 1st ever archive tool with ribbon interface.
Winzip soon followed… and in our opinion they still cant get it rite :D
Ow, and speak your mind! if you feel pasionate about something dont give up but explain why. I still remember arguing the toss over why PA should have FTP! and adjustments to the way it looks or works in certain aspects and many of them are still in thought and some are in the program and to me thats the rewarding aspect.
hope this all make sense and welcome!
PS: Remember, there is 2012 Beta 2 out now so start testing buddy!

I am an unofficial tester….I like stealth mode :P

I am using Powerarchiver 2012 at the moment, it’s stable, but has a few issues which need addressing but other than that it is a vast improvement.
I am installing VMware tomorrow and will be running Windows 8 and will be trying this on Windows 8 to see if it works as well.
-
Hi Jonessie,
We hope that you have reported any issues you find need addressing. You can report it here on the forum, in the Tech Support section or email support which you can find in the support section on the main page.Tx!!!

I would like to become a alpha tester, in our company we use PA 2013, and always before we put new version via group policy, we are testing if everything works as it should.
We use Win 7 Enterprise, Win 8, and Win 8.1 on the different hardware

keep in mind these are not for production environments - well at least not to install on co-workers computer… Alpha’s are really alpha’s, not beta’s that we release to general public. However, they will not burn the house down :P

It is very clear to us, the alpha version would be here in our IT division tested on a dedicated PC that are designated for such things, and we would like to help with the development, and by the way we have good security against fire :P :D :D :D
