I’m looking forward to deploying PowerArchiver 2023 to my users. Can you tell us when the MSI will be available for download and distribution?
Thanks.
Just tried using the Modern (Windows 10) Icon set and seeing a few missing icons in both PowerArchiver Burner and PowerArchiver Encryption screens . They are all there in the Minimalistik icon set and the only difference I can see is the former is blue and the latter grey. In version 22.00.9

Hi there,
there were some security issues fixed in 7zip:
https://www.zerodayinitiative.com/advisories/ZDI-23-1165/
https://www.zerodayinitiative.com/advisories/ZDI-23-1164/
As it seems, that PowerArchiver and PACL use the 7zip libraries, could you please update them to the latest version?
Hi,
From where I get PAVD2023.EXE? PowerArchiver 2023 tries to open it.
But it seems, it tries to download PAVD2021.EXE.
Thanks
I noticed that the version of ZPAQ used is older than the latest released 7.15 https://mattmahoney.net/dc/zpaq.html also there seems to be a newer fork that adds several features https://github.com/fcorbelli/zpaqfranz
It would be useful to implement this latest version (it also maintains the same syntax and behavior as the latest official release if used the -715 flag) and add when opening a zpaq file a choice of the version of the files to show (e.g. as dummy folders represented the various versions present). Since any previous changes are stored with this format, it is possible to extract a snapshot of a certain date/version.
If I open a password-protected zipper file (created with WinRAR but I think that’s irrelevant), open it with PowerArchiver and run “Remove Encryption” on the same file, then reopen it and add a password with “Encrypt Archive,” the resulting archive will be protected with the old ZipCrypto algorithm and not AES as indicated.
(this can be verified, for example, by trying to open the archive files with Windows Explorer, which does not support the AES algorithm)
PA 21.00.18 running on Windows 7 64 bit.
I made a big .PA file and thought I’d check it was made correctly with Menu / Actions / Test.
Discovered:
a) PA always issues a UAC prompt to do this!
b) PA always says there are many errors in PA files.
PA is adding a password to my backup.

Usually when I create a backup I have them password protected so have not noticed this before. But I just wanted to create a quick backup of a folder and couldn’t be bothered to think of a password so created one without a password. It does this fine but if I run that same backup again Powerarchiver adds a password. That can’t be right can it ?
Try it yourself.
Start a new backup. Follow the wizard and add the folder that you want to back up. Untick the option to Encrypt archive with password. Finish and create the backup. Test it and it is fine.
Now re-run that backup either by double clicking the icon in explorer or via Powerarchivers interface. Then test it once again. You are now asked for a password even though you have not added one.

how are you starting that original backup?
-
In PA interface via the New button - Create New Powerarchiver backup. Then just follow through to it’s conclusion.
-
can you send us PA registry key to support @ conex ware . com ?
it might be due to your saved settings (overwriting your selection in this case).
thanks!

Done.

did you get support ticket back?
-
No nothing yet.
-
still got zip, nil, zero…. thanks :-)
-
Is that a question or a comment spywolf ? :D
If question re support ticket then still nothing.
-
never got it… zip it and send it over again…
thanks

Re-sent. I Think I may have forgot to zip it last time. So that could be the reason for you not getting it. :o

Support ticket received.

Tested with your reg key,
“Encrypt” is checked by default every time I go through backup.
However, when i uncheck it my archives come out unecnrypted as they should. When running these scripts again, are you running them through windows explorer by clicking the pbs file or through the main PA window?
-
Normally I would run the scripts by clicking the pbs file in Explorer, but when I first noticed this problem I tried from Explorer and from the main PA window via the run icon.
If while in PA main window I use Backup > select to run and choose that backup, it brings up the Configure Backup Options screen and I can then uncheck it and then it comes out unencrypted.
-
if we uncheck the encrypt and run the backup, next time encrypt should be automatically unchecked in that same backup/pbs file… because last settings are always saved for backup.
-
That’s exactly the behaviour I was expecting. But it’s not doing that on my computer for some reason.
I have tried numerous times now, just creating test backups, unchecking the “Encrypt Archive With Password” option. Works fine but next time I run the pbs the password is back.
Been trying again and when the password prompt appeared when I tested my archive I typed in the password that I use for my main backup that I take every day (it was just a hunch). It accepted that password.
Tried again with another new pbs, same procedure as before. Once again the password I use for my everyday backup worked on opening that archive.

i should have quoted Mili :-).
I think it is not working right, from Mili’s description… it should save whatever setting was selected, but it seems that in your case it does not.

Luxor, for some reason your settings are such where the “encrypt” box is always checked even when unchecked in the previous run.
Therefore, when you run the script via Windows Explorer or Backup>Run, it will run it with “encrypt” checked. -

Just tried in the new Beta PA 11.50.20 and this issue seems to be resolved. Will know better after a couple of days playing around with it. ;)
