2009 B2-B4: Address Bar Dosent Update Explorer Pane

  • Set the ‘Folders’ to Explorer Display Style, so the address bar is visible. Type in a path and press enter. The contents of the explorer window dosent change to the path you entered.

Also the address bar really needs a go button. I attached a screenshot of the bug.

seems to work always here… maybe there is some specific case where it does not work?

It seems that it changed your address properly, but it not update the contents. What happens when you hit enter again?

Go button is sooo 90’s :).

    thanks

  • conexware

btw, what happens when you use dropdown to select folder and hit enter… do contents change then?

can confirm it worked for me in vista 32bit.

  • Typed C:\ and hit enter. Preview pane didnt update. I clicked the address bar again (as it lost focus) and hit enter a second time. Then the preview pane updated.

Dropdown and selecting folder(s) does not work. In the attached screenshot you’ll see the contents of the root C:. I then dropped down and selected Desktop. The explorer pane didnt update. I tried selecting another folder and drive, still wont update.

Im running a clean install of Beta 2 on Vista Business 32.
*Explorer pane not be confused with the folders pane

Edit: A go button might be 90’s but I like to click and would rather click a button as opposed to hitting enter twice 😃

can still confirm it worked for me Marc following your procedure…not that it helps your situation though…:(

typing c:\ or any other drive for that matter and hitting enter took me to that location and updated the preview pane.

  • Im at a total loss here. Here are two more screenshots of what works and what dosent. Hopefully they will provide some clue.

If the folder pane is off then the address bar is nonfunctional.

    ah…this time I got the same response…‘nothing’.
it didn’t update or even go to the location I typed in Marc…sorry if I misled you.

I can confirm it is indeed a problem/bug…thanks for making it clear.

    Update.

I’ve tried it on a couple of occassions and it seems intermittent…
one minute it worked and then on the next attempt later it wouldn’t…very strange indeed.

what OS do you have marc?

  • moles42: Huge thanks for continuing to test this and Im glad it was able t obe reprodiced. (whew)

spwolf: Im using Vista Business Edition 32Bit with SP1 installed.

  • In case this matters or helps - I also see the problem on WinXP SP2 with PA 2009 Beta 2.

  • conexware

is there any specific way you guys can reproduce this? we cant seem to reproduce it whatever we do…

    thanks

  • I can reproduce it too (XP/Vista). It looks like the OnChange trigger of the dropdown list isn’t working when folders is disabled.

    1. Make sure you open a version where explorer with folders in on.
    2. Select the Explorer Display style. What I do notice, the filelist changes to a different folder than I had currently selected.
    3. Now select a different folder from drop down list. It will never update the Filelist.

  • I still see this bug present in Beta 4.

  • I also still see this problem with Beta 4 (running WinXP SP2). Note that (for me anyway) having the Folder window open or closed does not affect the problem. The problem only shows up for the files pane - the Folders pane gets updated properly.

  • conexware

maybe someone could make one of those flash movies so we can see how we can reproduce it? Works fine on 4-5 computers that we have tried with…

  • My 2 screenshots in post 7 describe the problem pretty good. If the folder treeview is visible with the files pane then what happens is the folder tree updates as it should. But the files pane still shows the contents of the previous folder.

If you have the folder tree off (which I do) then the files pane simply will never update no matter what location you type into the address bar and hit enter.

Really though in both instances, the files pane does not update. 1st screenshot shows with folder tree and second one shows without folder tree. So in the second one when the folder tree is off, there is no way to update the files pane by typing a new location. Type hit enter, nothing happens.

we still cant reproduce it, thats why I asked for the movie - it may explain it better…

  • I can make a movie (after installing some freeware app) but all it will show is a PA window with the file pane visible. Then the text C:\Windows being typed into the address bar followed by the enter key (which wont show). The files pane will not update and display the contents of C:\Windows.

I’ll make a movie. Maybe it will show something I am not describing.
