Can you include .3MF to the list of re-compressible formats? Its structure is similar to MS Office 2007 documents and Open Document Format. It is a ZIP Deflate archive with XML data and some JPG, and/or PNG pictures inside. Otherwise, if I try to compress .3MF it bearly makes it smaller unless I recompress .3MF to the Store setting then it makes it a lot smaller.
Wish they all would move to 7zip ZSTD in the first place so that the optimized file size with FileOptimizer would be 50% of the ZIP Deflate version. And there would be no extra compression needed :)
I noticed that the option to add the optimize archive function to the context menu is missing on Windows 10.
Opening each archive with the interface in order to click it becomes tedious with many files.
Same for others functions like Remove Archive Encryption
Update that isn't a reinstall

Any chance of using a more modern update method.
The current system downloads the new installer which when run ignores any of the choices you made in the last installer.
How about either making the installer more ‘intelligent’ or using a more modern automated update method.
Having to run an installer to update an application that i already have installed seems a bit ludicrous.
I dread the ‘update available’ message. Ideally it should update in the background, and if it requires a restart, get me back to where i was before the restart

This should not happen - except, possibly, when doing “major” updates (e.g. PA 2006 [9.x] -> PA 2007[10.x]). Not sure about this because I didn’t perform that update procedure with the release versions - I was doing BETA testing.
For minor updates (e.g. PA 10.0 -> 10.0.1) the settings should be preserved (if not it is a bug).

Hi the last update was a minor update but the installer ran from scratch with all the usual check boxes e.g do you want to associate files/add icon etc. etc.

Hi,
I just came to ask for same thing when I found this topic. Yea, I also think PA really need this, some transparent, best background update process. With 10 serie it’s a bit hot because often updates… -

Yes, it does.
But if you set DeskTop Icon and Queue to same as before - you leave leave the others checked and no changes to your settings are made.
I can see where you may consider having to check/uncheck them as unneccessary, however. -
I think you are thinking of some kind of patch system… problem is that PA is pretty small itself, so there would be no benefit from that.
On the other hand, we would have build different patches for different versions, which will make our life harder and make it slower to update PA.
So once in a while, you will have to endure installation screen, for now :-).

Yeah, I agree it’s only lazyness from us. But doesn’t MSI package fully support updating process? It can check file versions and replace only needed…
-
thats what it does… it keeps all of your original settings and doesnt apply new ones, like it would if it was new installation.
-
kk, as I said, just lazyness. :-) It will settle down in time when updates become less often…ty and see ya.
