Hello!
I’ve just created SFX-Archives both from ZIP and 7z-Archives and none has an Icon as it seems.
I use the new version 22.00.11.
Zwischenablage_10-22-2024_01.jpg
Basically I used powerarchiver context menus to zip up a folder then i used windows 11 own built in zip extractor via the context menu to extract all and this is where it throw up a fault. , I’m using windows 11 .
The file that was a problem in the zip that windows 11 could not extract was iva “babe” cotton.jpg
I know it has non standard quotes in it.
However I had winrar on the computer and tried the exact same method with their context menu compress to zip and then I extracted the file with windows own extract all context menu and it had no problems. This indicates that powerarchiver is doing something different with iva “babe” cotton.jpg compressing to zip.
Then I changed iva “babe” cotton.jpg to iva babe cotton.jpg and compressed it with powerarchiver and then tried it with windows 11 extract all and had no problems. It looks like powerarchiver is doing something to that one file that has quotes in it.
Please note that powerarchiver extracted both zip files with no problems, only windows built in zip extraction had the fault. Reason I’m letting people know in case they send zip files with special characters in files names to people who do not have powerarchiver.
When will a fix be implemented?
On installing the program I am getting the error message:
"Unable to execute file c:\Program Files\PowerArchiver\pashutil.exe
CreateProcess failed: code 2
The system cannot find the file specified"
This can’t be right!
I am using the latest official build of Windows 11

Just tried using the Modern (Windows 10) Icon set and seeing a few missing icons in both PowerArchiver Burner and PowerArchiver Encryption screens . They are all there in the Minimalistik icon set and the only difference I can see is the former is blue and the latter grey. In version 22.00.9

Hi everyone, some good news about PowerArchiver… I’ve managed to get in touch with the original developer of PowerArchiver, Ivan Petrovic, and he has confirmed that the product is not dead or abandoned, in fact it is still very much alive! There has been a hiatus over the past months for various reasons, but that we should expect to see stuff coming through in the coming months (hopefully the next 2 months).
I had a large .tar file (a backed up WSL) and I want to delete a few directories and their contents from it using PA2023.
PA just destroys the whole archive as soon as I try to delete a directory, leaving it in a state where PA2023 won’t even open it any more.
I tried several times and also tried compressing it to .tar.xz instead - same result.
This should either actually work, or it should say operation not supported and do nothing.
Hello!
The regular version of PA 2023 is out for over 6 months now, but there is still no sign of the portable release.
(When) will there be one?
Thanks!
Hello!
Is there currently no portable version of PA2023 available?
(When) do you plan to release one?
Thanks!
Win 11 64 bit
I have some archives which have been encrypted, using the encrypt option either in pbs or when interactively creating a zip. When I open these, and look at files, I am asked for passwords, which I know, and then can view items or decrypt the files in the archive (tools>decrypt files).
However, when I use the Actions>Remove Archive Encryption (whether using the same zip or asking to write another), the routine shows progress bar to the end, but then just hangs i.e. “OK” never activates. All process information shows this stalled/hanging.
What can I do to sort this out?
For example:
Download this ZIP file: http://dslstats.me.uk/files/dslstats32W-6.5.zip
Everything in the ZIP file is in a directory “dslstats32W-6.5”.
However when I extract using right click “Extract Here” the name of the directory created is “2W-6.5” !
I am running PA 22.00.09 on Windows 11. I have seen the same happen with some other kinds of archive too.
If I compress a folder to a .pa using right click, Compress to folder.pa and use the new Windows 11 menu then the Options, Configuration, Miscellaneous, Use normal relative path setting is always enabled.
But I like this option disabled so I have to use the old style menu in order to get PA to compress a folder in the way I wish.

Pa2006 9.64.01

First off very nice product.
I am running Vista Ultimate and PA2006 build 9.64.01.
When extracting ISO files, all files extracted are capped at exactly 20kb. The file and directory structure is intact. -
did you try any other .iso file? There might be some incompatibility with specific iso file you tried?
I am not sure if there should be any reason for Vista specific issue.
thanks,
-
I have tried several ISO’s. MSDN Microsoft downloads, iso images from redhat etc.
All extract will same issue.
I can use another archive program and it will extract fine.
Very odd. -

Hi,
I’m using final PA2007 on vista, and I have exactly the same problem: files extracted from ISO or NRG files are limited in size to 20 Kb… REALLY REALLY bad!
I buy powerarchiver and I’m a very happy user from long, but what a deception now ! I hope it’ll be fixed soon!

MS ISO’s are changed so they wont work with PA’ ISO features… they are not normal ISO files.
-
I have the same problem with nrg files (nero cd images)… maybe it’s not a problem of ISO type?
Also, I used winiso to extract files without problems…Thx for the answer

they are all very similar formats… WinISO will of course have much better support, since that is the whole point of application…

As I was very surprised about this ISO format changes, I decided to reinstall an XP and the 2006 version of PA. And no problem anymore to extract the SAME iso file… I also reinstalled PA2006 on vista… Bad news: the files are again limited to 20 Kb size… VERY VERY strange

Just updated to PA version 10.00.36. The ISO problem is still an issue.
I also noticed that if you open the ISO in PA, the explorer view shows the files, directories and the correct file sizes.

those iso files have different format - UDF, so we need to add that to our iso support…

I understand the idea of different ISO format, but it’s not a problem of format here: the same iso used with the same version of powerarchiver is working fine on XP and not on vista…

Well, it’s now november 2007 and this problem still exists. I’m even using the RC1 that came out a few days ago, and as I just updated to Vista today (thank god I dual-booted with XP/Vista), I have this problem.
All extracted files are 20Kb or 1Kb. Please fix this as it works perfectly in XP. -

It is not an “simple” fix whatsoever. -
Really? What’s so complex about it that it works in XP but not in Vista?? I really hope this is fixed soon as instead of buying PowerArchiver, I bought UltraISO which is great for ISO/UDF files. Maybe you could ask them for some help??

In Vista it needs UDF support, which is whole another format. So hopefully for 2008.
Please remember, PA is an compression application, which is our main feature.
thanks,

I’m very very disapointed to read this… as I’m registered client of PA from very long now…
I’m no speaking about UDF format, but very simple ISO 9600 format. As described PA is able to open and browse the ISO, but unable to extract the files under vista. It’s very pitty to see that the same version of PA is working fine under XP and not under vista. I think that this feature is not at all “a small detail to fix”, but that a lot of user want to use as few different softwares as possible. If winrar allows me to use ISO, zip and Rar files with vista, I’ll move to it… and give this advise to everybody…

Guys, Please try and understand that Windows XP and Vista are completely different OS systems.
PowerArchiver’s development team try their best to ensure each release is compatible and contains the most updated Archive list as possible.
As stated by Spwolf this is now a known issue and they are trying the best to resolve the issue for the next release.
I think what some users forget is PowerArchiver offers the ability to contact them direct via these forums, this is something Winzip, winrar, ultraiso don’t offer and if a user doesnt receive feedback asap they think nothing is being done this is not true.
It just means work is still being done and tested to ensure when complete it would not cause further issues.
also compared to other archive utilities PA offers far more updates/fixes and patches than their competitors and they actually listen to their users.

Hi Sir Richard,
please notice that this problem is reported from at least 12-05-2006 (beginning of this thread) and it’s the first time I hear that it’s a known problem. Previous answers where “iso format have changed”… 18 months, this is not really “ASAP”… I like PA, and it’s pitty for me that I have to change it…
-
Well, I hope that PA Fix it on the next major version which I am sure they will. I can understand your and other users disapointment esspecially when we are all quite loyal to the program. But like everything else sometimes a software vendor just doesnt have the features or functionality that you require specifically. That doesnt mean they never will.
I used Winzip all the time untill powerarchiver 2006 arrived since then i need nothing else. I admit i dont use ISO files allot “very rarely” so this problem doesnt effect me as much but that doesnt mean 5 weeks down the line it wont.
keep checking this thread and the new updates and hopefully soon PA will have the fix needed for you to revert back.

I can tell you what I know. I cant tell you it will be fixed tomorrow, because it wont.
If ISO support under Vista is crucial, then right now PA is not the tool for you. I can only apologize but that wont make fix come any sooner. I hope all the other features make it up for you. ISO support was always an added benefit for PA, it is not our main feature (which is why tools like WinIso and others exist).
thanks,
-
p.s. we do appreciate when people complain, because thats how we know that those features matter to them. We will tripple check ISO feature again to make sure there is nothing we can do ASAP (and before PA 2008).
-
another example of the speedy reponse we get from PA’s developers. :o)
-
so, there will be some happy users tomorrow I think
:-).

And here we go:
http://www.powerarchiver.com/test/release10/powarc1021a10.exeThis should fix this issue. Please confirm.
thank you!

if you went back to xp and no problems with thoses iso’s but in vista you have then i suspect that its a fault of vista and a conflict with pa’s iso function. As stated before winiso is deigned to work with all types of iso standard and non standard. Pa is not at fault here it is vista and having been a developer of microsoft products i can assure you that pa proably aren’t getting enough advice from microsoft on vista to ensure they can fix all the bugs straigh away, like some other companies are. Please be patient and it will be fixed.

This versions shows great improvements! Thx very much! something curious: when you drag and drop one file, it is created in a sub-folder with subfolder same name as a file… but the extracted file seems correct ! You are on the right way !
-
are you sure that file didnt have path like that? I tested it here, seems to work fine?
thanks,
-
Hi, I tried diffent situations, and if my iso file contain this files:
\test1.txt
\subdir1\test2.txt
\subdir2\test3.txtafter extraction, the result will be
D:_PAxxx\test1.txt
D:\subdir1\test2.txt
D:\subdir2\test3.txtwhere xxx is a random number.
This occurs when I use the drag and drop of the files, but no problem if I use the extract command (icon), and select the same destination for selected files
Thx for your help
-
it seems to be an issue with drag and drop in classic view… thanks!
-
should be fixed, please re-download rc2 and check it out.
thanks!
-
Well done! It is fixed in ver 10.21.17

thanks, closing thread…
