    • Windows Store Delivery (and ideally updates)

      T

Now that the Windows Store is making support for non-UWP apps mainstream, including those with their own update delivery process, it would be nice to see PowerArchiver in the Windows Store going forwards - at least as a channel for the product to be available.

In Windows 11 a new explorer context menu is introduced.
The “old” context menu may still be accessed through an additional mouse click, to reach the PowerArchiver context menu functions, but this isn’t comfortable at all.

Could you add PowerArchiver items to the first level (and ideally disable the Windows native ZIP entry)

    • Better handling for protected archives

      BigMike

      Hi,

I’d like to propose an improvement for password protected archives.

      Actual behavior is:
If I open an archive, which is password protected and make a typo in the password dialog, I’ll get the message, that the password was wrong and I end up with an empty window. I need to reopen the archive to be able to enter the password again.

      Improved behavior:
Tell me, that the password was wrong and give me the chance to enter the correct password to decrypt the archive.

    • ZIPX: Add support for packing JPEG with specialized algorithm

      A

      Hello!
I know I have been asking for this feature some time ago, but as nothing has changed let me ask again:
The ZIPX-format offers an algorithm, that compresses JPEG-files by about 20-30%. Please add compression (packing) support for this in ZIPX-archives to Powerarchiver. Extraction of JPEGs packed into ZIPX by this algorithm is already supported by Powerarchiver for a long time, so it should not be difficult? Or is it a licensing problem?
      Thanks!

    • Better archive type handling with drag & drop

      BigMike

      Hi,

I’d like to suggest, that the correct archive type is (always) selected, when adding files by drag & drop to an archive.

This is already happening if the archive has the correct extension. For example, if I’m adding files to test.zip, zip will be selected. If I’m adding files to test.7z, 7z will be selected as format in “Add dialog”.

But this won’t be working, if the archive has not the “right” extension.
So XPI files (Firefox addons) for example are ZIP files. PowerArchiver opens them without any problems, but if I try to add file by drag & drop, PowerArchiver won’t auto select “ZIP”, but use the last selected archive format, while PowerArchiver already knows, that I’m trying to add files to a ZIP.

I love this, only there is one problem. The UAC elevation feature does not extend to Mount Image option in the add-on software PA provided. It is most annoying whenever I am on highest UAC settings and I mount an ISO, every time I open and create a virtual drive UAC appears. I also do not want to completely disable UAC.

Is adding UAC elevation for mount image feature possible?

How about recognising a few more (or all) of the file formats that are basically renamed zip files and treating them is if they are zip files.
For instance Android .apk files are just renamed .zip files.
Libreoffice/Openoffice ODF documents are all, as far as I am aware, just renamed .zip files. (.odt, .ott, .ods, .ots, .odp, .otp, .odb, .odf etc.)

      Hi.

I would like to see a new feature implemented: a ‘Fast Extract’ Mode.

Currently PowerArchiver extracts files to a temporary directory and then moves them to the target directory chosen by the user. At least via drag and drop.

This can be both time consuming and needs free space on the system drive for large files.

Is there a way to directly extract files to the target directory with PowerArchiver?
And if not, can a feature like this be considered for future updates?

      Thanks very much!

dont know if this is a bug, but if you set the plugin to handle zip files pa ignores this and uses it own built in plugin. same goes for 7zip and isos, why is thsi when i want to use plugins instead. its sayes pa should be able to do this

true but the option should sill be there. I wanted to try other peoples iso and zip support. Sounds strange but i also want to see if i could code my own zip plugin out of curiosity. By haveing the option there and not being able to use it defeats the idea of the plugin system and limits it to only working on new archive formats. I see your point but it would be nice to abable to do what the archiver plugin was actually intended for. Is there any chance i can have this feature

david has a fair point spwolf.

However, from a developers point of view the amount of issues an unsupported plugin can cause is daft! often users blaim the program and dont realise it’s due to an issue with the plugin or both not being compatible.

At the same time, i know of applications that do support external plugins. yet the user has a prompt that states any crash’s, bugs that is caused from enabling external plugin support will not be supported by the development team and the user uses it at there own risk.

A similar error you get with pre-alpha and beta’s.

Yeah, plus how much effort is involved in identifying the plugin as the problem?

as usual, when it comes to features we have to decide how to spend our development resources.

so when it comes to integrating plugins that are worse than what we have, does it really make much sense to actually spend time on it?

Although an application states it support plugins, that doesnt mean every plugin is compatible.

Listed on the website are supported plugins. Maybe PA need to open a poll on the Plugins Users really like and then look into testing and incorporating them.

I partly agree but i know as a developer and project manager that it’s not as simple as supporting plugins from 3rd party developers.

Why do you think Apple, google and microsoft have such stringent policies about submiting applications.

there software supports them but must follow guidelines.

no point having a plugin system, if the purpose of it is to restrict people into creating what the developer wants. I know that some plugins wont work but it would be nice if we had a team of peopel able to test plugins just like the android market, with rating etc

You cant just open your application for every third party to load plugins into it. your opening up a can of worms.

Every major software company has conditions when it comes to plugins, gadgets, widgets and apps for phones.

There is a point and that point is to ensure the main service is not damaged or causes negative effects on the user’s interaction or system.

Although, i agree there could be more expansion on this area as it hasnt been something looked at for a while.

When i develop programs or database’s i certainily wouldnt want anyone just throwing scripts from unknown sources into my source unless it conforms to a specific standard i have set out.

considering all the plugins on their plugin page came from me i think that could work. Well i tested them and uploaded links to them to this site first.

There no point having a plugin sytem if it is not used. I want to see competitions for people to create plugins.

One feature that would be nice as a plugin is to be able to actually add details to the archive properties like version of say zip made with and time made and who made it.

I would like to see password files that you have to send separate to pa and have to be used with that archive to open them extra security.

More file form, ats for the viewer.

Better verification tools and tools like par2

I would aslo like an plugin that actually records the way you install something from an archive and then actually lets you uninstall it.

More archive formats via plugin and com[pateitions for specific file format archive formats.
