    • Functions in Windows 11 context menu no longer work after last Windows Update

      T

For some reason, the PowerArchiver functions in the Windows 11 context menu no longer work after the last Windows Update. Only the functions in the classic context menu function as they should.

I’ve tried uninstalling PowerArchiver and using RevoUninstaller to remove all bits and pieces that were left behind and did a clean install of PowerArchiver, it didn’t fix the issue. Other items in the Windows 11 context menu work.

Re: Explorer.exe Crash on right click

This appears to be happening again with the Power Archiver 2022 shell extensions.

When I have Use Explorer Shell Extensions enabled in Power Archiver Configuration and right-click on c:\Users\username\Start Menu, (hidden Junction file), File Explorer crashes.

      I have version 21.00.15 (03/2022) 64-bit installed in Windows 10 Version 21H2 (Build 19044.1826).

    • PA 21.00.18 Action / Test behaves oddly for me on .PA files

      Brian Gregory

PA 21.00.18 running on Windows 7 64 bit.
I made a big .PA file and thought I’d check it was made correctly with Menu / Actions / Test.
      Discovered:
      a) PA always issues a UAC prompt to do this!
      b) PA always says there are many errors in PA files.

    • Functions in Windows 11 Context Menu don't work in some directories

      P

In the latest version of PA, on W11 (latest build/SP) when you try to use the first level context menu - NOTHING HAPPENS (particularly when you do this from Downloads or Documents folders) - however I noticed that it DOES WORK when you use the context menu from the Desktop. Going to the second level context menu does work however.

    • PA 21.00.18 testing via context menu causes extraction of files

      D

When the function for testing archives is invoked via the shell context menu (PowerArchiver > Test) then all the files in the archive get extracted to the current folder.

The test dialog reports as many errors as there are files in the archive but it fails to give any hint as to which files are supposed to be erroneous or what the nature of the problem might be. Comparing the extracted files to the originals shows no differences at all.

The .7z in question was produced with maximised compression settings in 7zip (taking forever but resulting in smaller archives than .7z produced by PowerArchiver with maximised settings). Therefore I wanted to see whether PowerArchiver can at least test .7z that it produced itself. Hence I had PowerArchiver convert a .pa with the same contents to .7z. There weren’t any errors reported but the resulting .7z contained fewer than half of the files contained in the .pa (137 of 366), so I scratched that test.

Performance is abysmal when testing via the context menu (e.g. almost 2 minutes for testing a .7z that 7zip tests in 4 seconds), but that is most likely due to the fact that the extracted files are written to disk. Testing the same .7z in the PowerArchiver GUI takes only 8 seconds but causes the mysterious appearance of a UAC dialog, as reported elsewhere.

The testing function is vital because PowerArchiver has a history of producing archives that it cannot unpack without errors or that do not conform to the respective file format standards (e.g. ZIP) so that other programs report them as erroneous.

The point of creating archives is that the files in them will most likely have to be extracted at some point. If the extraction cannot be guaranteed to produce correct results then the whole program is absolutely pointless. Actually, worse than pointless - it causes data loss and hence damage.

    • Start PowerArchiver 2023 Starter when my computer starts

      Brian Gregory

In PowerArchiver 2023 22.00.06 configuration, the option labelled “Start PowerArchiver 2023 Starter when my computer starts” seems to be redundant.

I am only allowed to change this option when PA Starter is disabled, and then it seems to be ignored.

When I enable PA Starter this option is forced to the enabled state.

I think it’d be good to remove “Start PowerArchiver 2023 Starter when my computer starts” completely. I’ve always found it confusing having both options.

Added later: However i don’t particularly want to use queue but I do like having the PAStarter icon in my tray area.

    • Testing .pa archives

      PA_Fan

      W10 Pro 22H2 - 64 -bit

      PA 22.00.06 (PA 2023)

It has been the case with previous versions of PowerArchiver, but I had hoped that the latest might behave differently. Not so, I’m afraid.

I have, for various obscure reasons, created a few .pa archives, mainly in the hope that they will save me some more space. From time to time, I use the “Test” option to check that important archives are OK and uncorrupted.

With every .pa archive I’ve tested, the process runs through OK but then reports that there are errors. This is always the number of files in the archive e.g. if 11 files, then 11 errors reported.

      In the .pa, I can:-

preview the files (usually PDF) extract some or all files and look at or use them convert the .pa to a .zip or .zipx archive, which then works fine and tests without errors

Is it the case that the Test routine isn’t designed for .pa archives, or is there another reason? Although the .pa seems to function properly, despite the test reporting errors, I would like to be sure that every .pa is OK and not “broken”.

Some of the .pas are quite old and produced with earlier PA versions (they are truly “archives”). If I extract all the files in the old .pa, create a new, fresh .pa and add back the files to that, then test the new, no errors (at least in the .pa I’ve tried this on) are reported. This would suggest a mismatch between old .pas and newer versions of PA itself.

I have a disc in my CD/DVD-RW drive, that is 1.5GB, I open PA, and choose Burner, and (Copy Disc to Image ISO) and nothing happens for long time.

The activity light on my DVD Drive is blinking, but no response from PA in Windows. There is a Minimized App that says Image Grabber, but no Dialog for me to know what is going on. I waited for a long time, nothing…

        Hi,

Thank you for using the forum’s to report this bug. I beleave this is something the development team & alpha team have been working on. But it’s good to know that the issue is being experienced outside the alpha team.

for now try downloading the latest version 12.02.02 and let us know if you still experience the same issues.

        http://www.powerarchiver.com/test/alpha120/powarc120202.exe

To be on the safe side, i would also recommend you uninstall PA, reboot and then install the latest version from a clean start.

If you have any error messages, please include screen shots. however, from what we know the system just doesnt recognise or respond so you can screen shot that :)

Cheers again! and merry Christmas! PS: I like your system specs and computer designs!!

is this only on this DVD or?

Do you have PAVD installed (Virtual Drive?). It also installs special SPTD drivers that will be able to access your drives via custom drivers (if something has messed up your standard SPTI Windows driver).

just tested this using the latest version.
inpot a 1.57gig DVD, opened PA>Burner>Copy Disc to ISO, the Image Grabber appeared immediately and “grabbed” the DVD into ISO.
My system is very similar to yours……

I would check the settings that spwolf recommended.

I do have PAVD installed, and that mounts my ISO’s just fine.

I will try using a different disc,
Also I have no issues creating an ISO from my HDD.
As I just dragged all my files from the DVD to my HDD and created an ISO then mounted it as G: DVD drive no issues.

                maybe copy protected DVD?

Make sure you go to Settings and change to SPTD drivers instead of Autodetection (PA Config> Misc).

Ok, I tried a totally differnt disc, and so far it is grabbing the image,
the dialog appered, but is very touchy, When I switched windows I lost the Grabber Dialog, but got it back.
Then when I went to move the dialog, Windows gave me a (Not Respondeing) however it recovered…
                    Image Was Sucessfull….

Here is the Screenshot of my issue using the disc in question.

I have changed the settings to (Auto Detect)
                    the options available are:

                    • Auto Detect
                    • SPTD
                    • SPTI
                    • ASPI

It appears there is only major problem with this disc,
It does not appear to be copy protected as I have made a backup.

Even weirder this is not a DVD, it is a 700MB CD copy, the original has
I assumed it was a DVD, die that when I dragged the files to HDD it was 1.18GB,
but the disc itself is under 700MB.

This is either a problem with the disc, or issues with 700MB CD’s, I’ll do some more testing…

Thank’s for the replies, it is very appreciated.

the reason for this adventure is we can mount CD’s /DVD’s and virtual drives, and not have to insert a disc to play each game.

When I get this all figured out, I will do a tutorial, and recomend PowerArchiver to handle the job…

I went ahead and made a video of the issue.
It is only CD specific, no issues with DVD.
                      http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2XaimFV-Do0

Also the mounted drive does NOT seem to work with games that require a DVD in the drive to play. I have to actually put the DVD in to get it to work. I have even tried renaming the drive to D:/ but still does’nt work.

I forgot to mention that when selecting SPTD, I do get a dialog, but drive does not appear.

Also that others are doing this and having the same isuues.

Does the same thing happen if you enter ANY CD in the drive?
What is the longest you waited for before turning the program off?
You should be able to just press the “Open” button on your DVDrom drive and the disc tray should open up, without you having to turn your computer on or off, does that work?

Also, lets try this…after entering the disc and Image grabber working in the task bar, open the Task Manager>Application Tab>Right click on PowerArchiver 2011: Image Grabber>Select Maximize

Does that bring it up at all?

Any CD will cause the issue, even data cds I made myself, please note I have no issues with DVD

I’ve waited About 15 minutes before turning it off.

Pressing the Eject button on the CD-Drive, and even right clicking on CD-Drive will not eject the CD, it is still spinning, I used a paper clip to eject it one time, not a smart move on my part. Nothing was damaged.

I have used TaskManager, tried ending process, it goes through the process, but will not stop the drive from spinning. I have also tried right clicking on the TAB and restoring it from there, but no luck.

I will try using TaskManager to maximze/restore PowerArchiver.

when it comes to playing game DVD’s, PAVD doesnt have any DRM avoidance, so if particular DVD has DRM you wont be able to play that game.

The best thing for fixing the CD issue would be to PM us the example file (if you can find it on torrents or somewhere), so we can reproduce it here.

Only 1 game I need the CD for, and that’s OK, I can live with puting it in, I dont play that much anyway.

The main reason was for 1 game my Brother has BF2, and we fixed the issue with that one, he had not updated the game, and that fixed issue ther, no DVD required to play.

Lastly, the CD issue, it does this with CDs, CDRs etc… so I doubt having the CD would recreate the issue, as I believe my problem is with all CDs

                                    I appreciate the help all…

I’ve been using Powerarchiver since way back when it was called something else, Powerzip maybe ?? cant remeber like 90’s, anyway, this is not causing me real issues, as the DVD ISO does work…

When I get some free time, I will try it out on a couple different computers…

Hope I’ve been of some help…
Let me know if there is anythng else I can test on my end…

                                    Thanks…

It did not solve the issue on my PC,
Samsung Superwritemaster SH-223Q cannot update firmware (*)
Things that may be causing the issue:I’m using RAID 0 x2 on JMB363
System is 3-Way SLI (Doubt this is a problem)

                                          HOWEVER:

I cannot recreate the issue on several other computers
                                          Intel G41 running Windows 8 64-Bit,
HP DV6-2155DX Laptop Winows 7 64-bit, the CD to ISO file was quick and without issue…

So this issue is on my gaming rig only, it may be the
Samsung Superwritemaster Model: SH-223Q, and for some reason I cannot update the firmware from SB02 to ST02, I even reverted it back to SB00 with no avail. and still cannot update to ST02.

                                          Sorry for the trouble everyone,
Next I am going to install a new DVD-ROM or blu-ray and see if the issue still persists…

                                          Thanks for all the help…

yes, but it should work regardless of the drive :-).

After we finish up with beta, we would like to send you an debug version to capture logs so we can send them to our burner guys.
