Maybe this was introduced in RC4. Or perhaps something made it disappear. If the latter, any ideas on how to get it back?

15 minutes later. I discovered that I have to have “Compress to Zip” turned on to get “Compress with Option”. But I don’t really want compress to Zip, just compress to ZIPX.

I can get around the problem by defining “Compress to Zip” as if it were “Compress to ZIPX.” But perhaps I shouldn’t have to.

8 minutes after that. I also get both FTP and Compress and FTP as options in the shell, even though there is only one option in the Shell Extensions configuration screen: “FTP it.”

However, I do feel that having compress options tied to formats is no longer necessary, if for no other reason than ZIP is probably not the most used any more.

Comprees with options should be seperate.
So should the associate PA with formats prompt (it activates when PA is NOT associated with ZIP).
Maybe Gzip and Bzip without TAR (so can be used with single files)?

If so, then you should keep it the way it is.

Me? I have other programs for FTPing. So I would only use the compress and FTP.

And since I prefer a less cluttered list of options, I would rather have none, that one that I would never use.

But that they reflect some idiosyncratic preference.

FTP It - sends any file to FTP, without compression

Compress and FTP - compresses the file and then sends it to FTP.

So assumption was that if you wanted any of FTP options, you would want them both.

You might swamp users with relatively trivial options. Perhaps this is one of those cases.

Two suggestions. (1) if you are going to pair options, you might want to find a way to let users know.

I also get both FTP and Compress and FTP as options in the
shell, even though there is only one option in the Shell
Extensions configuration screen: “FTP it.”

(2) I would propose changing this. Given where these options appear, seems any FTP always involves “Compress and FTP.” So why not just the shorter “FTP it”?

basically so it would be easier to configure and less options to understand…

should we change this?
