PA 21.00.18 running on Windows 7 64 bit.
I made a big .PA file and thought I’d check it was made correctly with Menu / Actions / Test.
Discovered:
a) PA always issues a UAC prompt to do this!
b) PA always says there are many errors in PA files.
WinRAR 5 has a rather useful option in some cases, which is to be able to create an archive by replacing identical files with a reference to the first occurrence (hardlink) within the archive.
In case you choose to convert the file with PowerArchiver to another format, however, the resulting archive does not have all the files. It does not consider those that were present as hardlinks.
If you do a normal extraction of the RAR archive instead, even with PowerArchivier, all the files are extracted correctly.
When adding to a file archive, and selecting for example PA format, strong optimization method, extreme compression. In the Advanced Options section you change to Automatic, EXE Filter and PDF filter . You return to the main section and save the Profile. When you then reload the profile you do not have the Automatic options of EXE Filter and PDF saved there.
I noticed that instead if you change other options they are saved correctly (except for the Filter box values).
Also among the various changes to the advanced options you click the “Calculate RAM usage” button the value seems to be added to the previous one. You can see it for example just by clicking the button twice in a row, the value changes. Edit: actually after many attempts now it seems to write a stable value (it does not change with each click). Maybe a synchronization problem in the calculation?
Used PowerArchivier 2023 but there is the same behavior with the 2022
Vista Drag and Drop

I’ve noticed in PA2007b5 when trying to drag and drop a file from the archive to the Windows desktop, it gives you the “not-allowed” cursor.
If you try a second time, it will work fine.
Also, may I recommend the DevExpress VCL components. Their new ribbon control looks perfect and gives glass and all that.
Thanks :P
-
just me?
-
try b6 and let us know… devex is for .Net, and their Delphi version isnt out yet and wont support glass on the ribbon…
-
we use old devexpress vcl stuff in our delphi applications :) but i didn’t realize the haven’t updated ExpressBars vcl yet.
When are you gonna redo PA in C# like every other delphi shop is doing? :P hehehehe

5 years after Borland closes shop? :-)

technically they did :P what’s their new name now for ide’s? codegear or something? my CTO wrote them a pretty nasty letter. hehe
anyhow, same problem exists in b6.
If you drag a file from the archive to the desktop i get the “No-no” cursor. When I let go of the mouse button it goes back to normal, then when i highlight over the PA window, it’s back to the “No-no” cursor. A second attempt at dragging to the desktop is successful.

same problem in beta 7
open an archive, select a file and start to drag it. instantly you get the denied cursor. try it again and it works fine.
-
hate to be a bastard but it’s not fixed in beta 8 either.
i do a lot of dragging and dropping from archives during the day. any chance of this one getting fixed?
-
same in b9…
is this on your radar to fix? can you reproduce it?
-
The issue I have is that when I drag and drop in Vista, it goes through the actions of extracting but nothing appears in the folder I’m dragging to. I’m using b9, and it is reproducible

we will be checking it out for b10…

i’ve seen that on XP, too.

i’ve seen that on XP, too.
well in XP it works fine in general, so please report specific situation (there are hundreds of them possible). It is hard to troubleshoot if it works fine on general document…
-
oh, this problem i haven’t seen on XP…
the problem where you will drag and drop a bunch of files to the desktop or an explorer window. it goes through the motions of extracting everything, but nothing shows up in the window you dragged it to, and seemigly it’s gone… almost like it never copies from a temp folder or something… i haven’t reproduced that one on Vista yet since I’m having the problem that this whole thread is about :)

we will be checking it out over the weekend and I will let you know how it goes…

we will be checking it out for b10…
does that mean it may have been fixed in 10, or post beta 10?
no change in b10 :)
-
please check with RC1… thanks
-
no change unfortunatley.
edit: correction. slight change.
now, when dragging to the desktop you still get the ‘don’t allow’ cursor, but when you drop it, it kind of hangs on that cursor for a while, then it actually does extract it to the desktop.
better than previous builds, but still not quite right.
are you able to reproduce this on your vista copy?
-
anything i can supply you with to help get this resolved before the final?
-
actually, this does appear to be a vista issue, but something that can be fixed…

i think that will explain the issue pretty well. i might try and put together a test app tomorrow.
-
just wrote a quick test app in delphi 6 doing nothing special. works fine. must be something PA is doing.

we couldnt figure it out for the final, but we will check it again for 10.01… Sorry!
-
no worries. just don’t let it fall off the radar and i’m happy.
also, i’m a delphi developer (it’s my job) if you need any help with it at all.
-
Download latest version (english only) via website or via web update and see if this issue has been fixed.
thanks,

YAY! it’s fixed!
thanks a lot!!!
