With it’s encryption feature I was able to uninstall Blowfish. I do like the fact that it can also extract ISO images. However, one thing that I wish it could do that it currently can’t (I think) is create ISO images. That would be very useful. I think I’d go running down the street if they did that…and I have cerebral Palsy!!!

It has not beenfits at all to PA users. It would be much easier to simply use WR.

I am not making the request for rar creation support. I was trying to just show a way that PA’s abilities could be expanded, as Tugzip’s were with this plugin, without ingraining this feature in PA whch would be more difficult. Essentially, make ISO creation an/or editing a plugin. That was what I was trying to say. It was just an ideas based on the successes of others.

Thanks for that. I hadn’t realized the complexities here. If it help, which I don’t know if i will, you could also go the way TugZip went when they implemented rar creation support. It was not an ingrained feature but rather can as a plugin (here)

Been discussed many times (try a search for RAR or for plugin).
Basically, RAR is a proprietary format which must be licensed seperately - and paid for seperately.

However there is an big difference in ISO, because with creation you would have to support different ISO formats while with editing you simply edit it.

Extraction

Creation

Editing (adding/removing from existing archive)

Editing is also dependant on the format.

This is why e.g.
RAR/Arj files can only be extracted.
CAB/7z files can be extracted and created.
Zip files can be extracted, created and edited.

Note: I am not saying it cannot be done, but I believe you need to support Creation before you can support editing.

problem with having ISO creation is that you would expect it to create images of cds/dvds, which is something we are not prepared to do and would be application in itself, definetly goes beyond the scope of archiving utility.

I can see your point. I don’t necessarily agree with it, but I understand where your coming from. What if Archiver can extract and EDIT iso files, would that be “doable?” That would solve my need right there. Currently users cannot add files to an arleady existing image. If we could then I could keep using the same image file and just change a couple files out as they are outdated. (I need to create bootable acronis true image cds with a backup of my harddrive) That would work. Is that feasible?

Right, I understand that. However, mine app (ONES) does not. I just mean that since it extracts ISO it would be nice if it also created them. Am I alone on this, or would others like this feature as well?
