    • ZIPX: Add support for packing JPEG with specialized algorithm

      A

      Hello!
I know I have been asking for this feature some time ago, but as nothing has changed let me ask again:
The ZIPX-format offers an algorithm, that compresses JPEG-files by about 20-30%. Please add compression (packing) support for this in ZIPX-archives to Powerarchiver. Extraction of JPEGs packed into ZIPX by this algorithm is already supported by Powerarchiver for a long time, so it should not be difficult? Or is it a licensing problem?
      Thanks!

    • Better archive type handling with drag & drop

      BigMike

      Hi,

I’d like to suggest, that the correct archive type is (always) selected, when adding files by drag & drop to an archive.

This is already happening if the archive has the correct extension. For example, if I’m adding files to test.zip, zip will be selected. If I’m adding files to test.7z, 7z will be selected as format in “Add dialog”.

But this won’t be working, if the archive has not the “right” extension.
So XPI files (Firefox addons) for example are ZIP files. PowerArchiver opens them without any problems, but if I try to add file by drag & drop, PowerArchiver won’t auto select “ZIP”, but use the last selected archive format, while PowerArchiver already knows, that I’m trying to add files to a ZIP.

    • Elevation of UAC in Mounting Images

      F

I love this, only there is one problem. The UAC elevation feature does not extend to Mount Image option in the add-on software PA provided. It is most annoying whenever I am on highest UAC settings and I mount an ISO, every time I open and create a virtual drive UAC appears. I also do not want to completely disable UAC.

Is adding UAC elevation for mount image feature possible?

      2

      Hi.

I noticed that when I want to run the Virtual Drive for the first time inside the PowerArchiver Burner it prompts to download it form the internet.

I was wondering, would it be OK to include this utility straight into the offline installer to be able to set it up locally?

      Thank you!

    • Suggestion to improve .pa format

      Brian Gregory

How about recognising a few more (or all) of the file formats that are basically renamed zip files and treating them is if they are zip files.
For instance Android .apk files are just renamed .zip files.
Libreoffice/Openoffice ODF documents are all, as far as I am aware, just renamed .zip files. (.odt, .ott, .ods, .ots, .odp, .otp, .odb, .odf etc.)

      Luxor

Would it be possible at all in some future version perhaps, to have a “find file” function?
Reason I ask is that I was looking for a certain file I knew existed in an archive, but I had to unzip it then use another tool to find the file. It would have saved that extra step if that function existed in PA itself.

      Hi.

Is there a way to enable the user to encrypt the files inside a ZIPX archive that has already been created?

This could save time for large archives that the user may need to encrypt at a later stage or that he/she has forgotten to enable encryption before creating the archive,

      Thank you!

    • Fast Extract large files directly to target directory

      2

      Hi.

I would like to see a new feature implemented: a ‘Fast Extract’ Mode.

Currently PowerArchiver extracts files to a temporary directory and then moves them to the target directory chosen by the user. At least via drag and drop.

This can be both time consuming and needs free space on the system drive for large files.

Is there a way to directly extract files to the target directory with PowerArchiver?
And if not, can a feature like this be considered for future updates?

      Thanks very much!

I believe it would be useful to implement Serpent-256 encryption for PAE/PAE2 formats, even though PowerArchiver offers strong encryption ciphers already.

Do you think this will be a useful addition?

      Hello!
I think it would be a great option to make the portable version of PowerArchiver compatible with PortableApps (i.e. adding the necessary files and folders to integrate it smoothly into their structure).
I own various other commercial programmes which -when installed in portable mode- offer to make the becessary changes without needing an extra installer or the official PortableApps repos.
Thanks for opinions or perhaps even a realization of this.

      Hi,

I had a look at the command line switches, but there are no switches to change the startup mode.

At the moment, PowerArchiver opens in the last used mode.
I’d like to have command line switches to influence the startup mode.
      Basically, the aim is:

Opening PowerArchiver from Start Menu or Desktop: Start in Explorer Mode Opening PowerArchiver by double clicking an archive: Start PowerArchiver in Archive Mode

PA is a great application, and I like it. However, it lacks some very important functionalities in extraction areas common users like me always need!

      1. Multi-extract should allow the option to extract to that particular archive’s dir instead of having only 2 options.

      2. Extraction should have the option to delete archive files upon successful extract. Lacking this function is really a big minus!

Sorry, I don’t understand this - can you explain further?
Using shell extension in Windows Explorer, I have 6 options - including “Extract to \filename…” which I believe is the one you mean.

        Not for me :p
It is very rare when I want to delete after extraction.

But I never object to more options - although I may object to the default action of a new option if it is different to the operation before the option was added.
i.e. default should still be “Do Not Delete after Extraction”.

Yes, the only feature i would like to see added, would be much like winrar’s “extract here” option, but i would like to see it added to multi-extract.

so when u extract multiple dirs, they dont go into another subdir inside the dir of the rars, but the contents of the rars go right into the dir the rars are in (i dont know if what i just typed made sense  )

other than this… i am very pleased with it, if this feature was added, i would purchase the application.

Not really (to me). You are confusing me by switching between “dirs” and “rars” in your description.

PowerArchiver does offer “Extract Here” as a shell option with multiple archives selected.

If I have a directory “Testing” containing three archives:
arc01, arc02 and arc03 (can be any supported format zip, rar, 7z, cab, tar.bz2 etc).
I can select all three, right-click and select “Extract Here” from the shell options.
The contents will be extracted to directory “Testing”

Obviously I’m missing something in your description.

I’m not talking about multiple archives. im talking about multiple directories

the way it extracts multiple directories as it is, you can only have 2 options really, u can either extract everything from all the directories into 1 main directory, or u can have everything extracted into subdirectories of the folders theyre in.

I want it to be able to extract the archives into the current folder they are in…

like: say you have a folder called “MAIN FOLDER”

then inside of that folder, you have 10 other folders, and each of those folders has rars in it… i want it to extract the contents of the rars right into each seperate folder, and not make another folder inside each folder for the contents of the rars.

              example: c:/main folder
              c:/main folder/folder1
              c:/main folder/folder 2

i want it to extract the contents of the rars in folder 2, to folder 2, and not another folder inside of folder 2.

don’t think i can explain it any better than that :)

                Ah!!!
You are talking about the ‘Multi Extract Tool’ in PowerArchiver which allows selection of multiple folders and extracts all archives found.

Not explorer - shell options which works with multiple archives (in the same folder).

So you want the equivalent of “Extract Here” where [Here] would mean each archive’s own folder?

Sorry, as you may have guessed by now - I never use that tool ;)
